Google Celebrates 10 Years
Google today celebrates its 10th year of strong presence and performance. Even though it’s only 10 years old Google is a worldwide data center providing information and services to its worldwide. According to Forbes, ‘Google’s annual revenue last year was $16.5 billion and their stock prices were $700 last year and has since fallen back to $450; its market cap is now at $142 billion, which puts it in league with the likes of Bank of America and Hewlett-Packard’.
The last 10 years Google’s grow was amazing. Back in 1998, Google reported that it handled 10,000 searches a day and in 1999 increased to 500,000 a day. During 1998 had Google had indexed 26 million web pages.and today is estimated to one trillion. According to Metro ‘The main reason behind the bare home page is that the founders were unfamiliar with HTML – and just wanted a quick interface - when they launched Google. But It took a while for consumers to catch-on to the site's minimalist look. In early user tests, it was noted that people would sit looking at the screen. After a minute of nothingness, the tester intervened and asked 'Whats up?' to which they replied 'We are waiting for the rest of it.'’
Last week Google introduced ‘Google Chrome’, a new browser, challenging Microsoft Internet Explorer.
But why Google is such a strong player?
Google receives daily search requests from every country. Users can searches for content to 35 non-English languages, including Chinese, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian and Estonian. Even though we don’t know Google algorithms, when a consumer will type a specific search google will present a number of pages with relevant results. They highlight the keywords and the order they display their search results is according to relevancy, PR and link popularity. Happy Birthday Google!
